They are one of the cornerstones of the Aquarama water park in Benicàssim. You'll find them throughout the park, always vigilant and available to resolve any issues. They are the lifeguards, and one of the reasons why summer is such a thrilling experience.
The Aquarama lifeguard team consists of 53 people, plus a zone supervisor and a coordinator. We spoke with the head of the rescue personnel to get a detailed explanation of their role within the park and to learn firsthand about the workings of such a complex operation as Aquarama.
Meet the Aquarama water rescue staff
To begin, what is your role within the park and where can we find you? find?
My role in the park is to coordinate the lifeguard team, and you can find us through any lifeguard or park staff member who can tell you our location. You might also see us patrolling the park or at the lifeguard station. You could say we don't have a fixed meeting point; we're a proactive team.
And in your team, how many people are on the team? What are their functions?
Our team consists of 53 lifeguards, a zone supervisor, and a coordinator. Our lifeguard duties include informing, expediting, preventing incidents, and taking action within the park's operations. The zone supervisor and coordinator work together and are responsible for organizing the lifeguards, responding to accidents, and mediating any disagreements with visitors.
If a user needs anything, where could they find you?
We go to the location indicated by the lifeguards if they are unable to resolve the questions or situations presented. One meeting point could be at customer service.
Have you ever enjoyed Aquarama as a user?
Yes, every year.
If someone is going to visit Aquarama, what should they keep in mind beforehand? What should they bring?
Rain gear, water shoes, sunscreen, a towel, and water.
Is it permitted to wear glasses in the park?
Yes, goggle straps are required for use in pools like the Waves, Los Lagos, or themed areas such as Minidunas, Chiquilandia, Kraken, or Cala Pirata. A strap is necessary to wear them in the pools.
Where can we find Aquarama's safety rules?
On the web All the rules for using and the park's attractions are detailed.
What do people ask you most often?
What time do the waves start, where can we use goggles/swimming goggles, can we pay for the sun loungers, which rides can we go on together, or what heights are allowed for our children.
When visiting the park with children, what recommendations would you give us?
We ask that you help us supervise your children and that our instructions are always followed.
If at any point someone suffers an accident (burns from the friction of the slides, scratches, falls, discomfort from the sun, etc.), what should they do?
Notify the nearest lifeguard and they will contact us to arrange for you to be taken to the park's first aid station.
Many people ride the kamikaze slides and once they're up there, they experience a certain amount of fear, a vertigo that can even paralyze them. What advice do you usually give so they can overcome this and enjoy the slide?
The experience of other users, seeing that nothing has happened to them, helping to get on the slide with the lifeguard's own experience on that attraction, having a companion go down first to give the OK from below, so that they see that nothing happens and indicating that if they respect the safety position nothing will happen, trying to reassure at all times.
But if the fear of heights is stronger, are there other options for 'fearful' people?
No one will be forced to go on any attraction and they may be shown other easier options.
This summer at Aquarama is #A attraction, what is your favorite attraction and why?
Of all the roller coasters, Tornado is the one I enjoy the most because of its continuous curves and speed. I'll never get tired of this ride.
I imagine the views from Salto del Diablo must be breathtaking. What's it like working in an environment like Aquarama, with the Mediterranean Sea on one side and the Desierto de las Palmas on the other?
We like to go up to keep an eye on the whole park, as it's easier to monitor all areas from that height. We also use this location when a storm is approaching.
And finally, what would you tell someone who doesn't know Aquarama yet? What does Aquarama have that other water parks don't?
It's a comfortable, family-friendly park where you can bring your own food and drinks. The professional staff ensures all areas are well-monitored by the large number of lifeguards. Unlike other parks, Aquarama doesn't require you to walk long distances between attractions.
